Chickadee on Barbed Wire Fence

Chickadees. Snow. A barbed wire fence. Simple clear lines and the cold — could winter be anything more than this? (Yes, of course it can. But here's the chickadee, anyway.)

This chickadee is among many (dozens? hundreds? more?) semi-tame chickadees at the Saskatchewan retreat I'm currently at, to write (and take photographs). They are so tame that one flew into me yesterday — with a thump! Another perched on my head. They are after peanuts, high energy food in our cold, cold winter.
